Herbs for Hair Regrowth

Hair Loss Remedy

Other herbs for hair loss include chamomile and catmint, licorice, parsley and horsetail. Chinese herbs include mulberries and Psoralea seeds, often made into tea. Ayurveda, or the Hindu art of medicine, also contributed its own list of herbs for hair loss. This list includes Brahmi, Dashamoola, Bhringaraj, and Jatamamsi. Like Chinese hair loss herbs, these are drunk as tea to relieve stress (which also causes hair loss).

If you're reading this, you might already know the significance of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It's a chemical that resides in your scalp that grabs a hold of your hair follicles and retards their growth and cuts off their blood supply which is the reason your hair falls out. Saw Palmetto is the most important herb you should be taking for your hair treatment because it blocks DHT from attaching to your hair follicles and it will also stop additional production of DHT. This was ultimately promotes hair growth and stops additional hair from falling out.

Aloe, Arnica, Birch, Burdock, Catmint, Chamomile, Horsetail, Licorice, Marigold, Nettles, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Southernwood and Stinging nettle are the major herbs that are used for hair growth. These herbs increase the circulation and the supply of blood in the scalp. Herbs like Aloe, Nettles and Stinging nettles help to clean the blood and the skin for hair growth.

You may never have thought of green tea as being an herb for fighting hair loss, but it certainly is. It works much like saw palmetto but women can actually take this one. It's fit for everyone and all you have to do is drink four cups of it daily to target DHT and regrow your hair.

Take note of one herb that has gotten a lot of attention in the hair loss community. Saw palmetto is not only intended for the use of promoting a healthy prostate in men, but it also has been found to be a natural blocker of a hormone that causes you to lose your hair.

Horsetail helps improve circulation and blood flow. This stimulates the hair follicles and is necessary for promoting hair growth. High in Silica, Horsetail strengthens weak hair and increases its vitality. Horsetail is often added to herbal preparations that fight pattern baldness.

The herbs that are used for hair growth can be taken in any form either in solid form or liquid form. The liquid form can be juice or oil extracted from the herbs for hair growth. Aroma therapy is a method that uses the herbs in their treatment. The herbs used in their product include cedar wood, grape fruit, jojoba, lavender, lime and aloe vera.

Hair Loss Treatment by Herbal Means

Hair Loss Remedy

Author: Joe Hair

In a recent article printed in the European Journal of Dermatology regarding an herbal hair loss product they are currently studying in Kang et, researchers have been studying a native plant called Schisandra Nigra from the Island of Jeju in South Korea for its rumored ability to re-grow hair. Currently, they are documenting studies conducted on rat hair with good results.

They applied 85% ethanol extract of S. Nigra (Schisandra Nigra) to rat vibrissa follicles. The most common effect was vibrissa follicles showed a significant increase in hair fiber length as well as the induction of the hair shaft’s anagen (growth phase) progression. The expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen in the bulb matrix region as well as the proliferation of immortalized vibrissa dermal papilla cells also increased with signs of more activity in the hair follicle cells when S. Nigra EtOH (ethanol) extract was applied.

Researchers examined S. Nigra’s relationship with the TGF-beta2 complex to help determine what mechanism helps induce hair growth. TGF-beta2 is a signal pathway known to regulate catagen induction of the phase that begins when the hair’s growth cycle ends.

After applying S. Nigra to rat hair for 7 days, the results show that the expression of TGF-beta2 was significantly lower in the bulb matrix region in comparison to that of the control follicles expected to be in the anagen-catagen phase. The results suggest that S. Nigra extract potentially promotes hair growth through down regulation of TGF-beta2 and the proliferation of dermal papilla.

In simpler terms, the S. Nigra plant extract stops hair follicles from going into their resting phase. With hair follicles not going into their resting phase, more hair will be seen at the same time. These findings only apply to rat hair at the moment and have not been confirmed to be effective on human hair growth.

We currently do not recommend the use of herbal hair loss products for treatment of male or female patterned hair loss due to the lack of substantial evidence of their effectiveness. We will, however, continue to review and monitor any new findings or updates made around the world and keep our readers up-to-date on their hair restoration questions and needs.

For many people, the thought of growing older is a depressing thought. What makes even worse for some people is the thought of losing their hair. A balding spot on the head usually equates to old age. And for some people, it can be tough to take. However, there are some natural alternatives that can result in the best and hair loss treatment. With the standard medications on the market today, there's always the danger of some negative side effects over the long-term. Herbs offer a natural alternative for hair loss treatment with limited negative side effects. There are three herbal alternatives that you can try;
* Green tea * Gingko biloba * He shou wu

Green Tea

Most people would never think that green tea could be one of the best for hair loss treatment. Green tea contains compounds called catechins that it's possible may restrict the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase which changes testosterone into DHT, a chemical very unfriendly to hair which can result in male baldness. Green tea also has properties, which helps relax the blood vessels and as a result, improves circulation, which may also help with hair loss. If you decide to try this method, it's a good idea not to drink more than 5 cups of green tea per day or 300 milligrams. Consuming too much green tea can lead to sleeplessness as well as headaches and vomiting.

Gingko Biloba

It is widely believed that gingko biloba helps increase blood circulation to the brain as well as the skin. With this increase blood circulation, more nutrients are sent to the hair follicles, which would help in preventing as well as reducing hair loss. The dosage varies but herbalists suggest 120-160 mg of the herb as a dry extract spread out over three times during the day.

He Shou Wu

He Shou Wu has been used by the Chinese for generations to treat hair loss. This herbal medicine in its processed form helps sustain the liver and kidneys, which according to traditional Chinese medicine, is the foundation of blood and essence. It is believed that liver blood feeds the head and hair on it and that liver essence stocks semen and helps to control the aging process, which is a factor in hair loss. He Shou Wu is considered to be one of the best hair loss treatments and is supported by clinical tests. Tests have shown that when people take he shou wu, 60% of the individuals experience hair re-growth. Most Chinese herbal stores will sell he shou wu. At the time this writing, you can purchase a bottle for about $2.00 which contains 100 tablets. The recommended dosage is five tablets three times per day.

With the ever-increasing dangers of side effects from synthesize medications, herbal supplements can offer a safe and natural alternative. If you are one of those who do not believe in man-made drugs, then perhaps you can try some of these ancient remedies as a hair loss treatment. As usual, you should first consult with your doctor before trying any of these remedies.

However hair loss treatments that use pharmaceutical medicines and surgery are expensive and come with some risks and harmful side effects. Hair loss in men is mainly caused by the male hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the body. In the case of women the causes could be either childbirth or hormones or hereditary thinning (alopecia) or menopause or hormone imbalance. Drug free hair loss treatment is clearly the best hair loss treatment possible as an alternative for conventional drugs, medications or surgery. Herbal hair loss treatment products are free of side effects and very affordable. These hair loss treatment herbal supplements have proven effective in stopping, preventing hair loss and stimulate regrowth of hair.

Top Hair Loss Herbs

Hair Loss Remedy

Top Hair Loss Herbs by Sarah Rowe

When it comes to treating hair loss no longer do we need to rely on the kinds of treatments that a doctor is likely to prescribe or which can be brought over the counter at your local drug store. Instead, more and more people who suffer from hair loss are looking at natural treatments. Below we offer some information regarding various hair loss herbs, which can help in treating this condition.

Please be aware that these are not medications and should be treated as such. With these herbs there are no guarantee's on if or how well they will work for you even if you read about them working for someone else. The plus side is you should not have to worry very much about side effects from using them.

All of these herbs, that we suggest, will work in a variety of different ways. Here we will look at a few of these herbs and how they affect your hair looks and grows.

1. Chamomile - This herb is great for not only its ability to help with healthy hair growth but also in its helping in reducing stress levels. You will find that in some cases stress is directly related to hair loss, so the reduction in stress should help in that area also.

2. Catnip or Burdock - These two herbs are useful for healthy hair growth; this in turn reduces the effects or risk of hair loss. You will usually find these two herbs in a solution, such as in a hair loss shampoo or conditioner, which you apply, as you would normally use one of these products.

3. Saw Palmetto - You will find a lot written about this particular herb. Using this herb will help with the reduction of DHT, A normal hormone found in both men and women. If too much of this hormone is produced, it will affect the hair follicles making it easier for your hair to fall out.

4. Green Tea - In studies of women in Japan, researchers have found that by drinking the herb it could help to increase their levels of the sex hormone binding globulin. This then helps to prevent their bodies from producing too much of the male hormone testosterone, often found to be a cause for hair loss in women.

These are by no means the only herbs for hair loss you will find. There are many other herbs available that have been shown to help, in some form or another, with this condition. A few of these are Apple Cider vinegar, Sage Tea, and Psoralea Seeds, all of these herbs would be applied directly to your affected area. Some others are Ginger and Liquorice Extract. The results you will see from any of these will very greatly, you will have to try each out to see how they will work for you.

Herbal Hair Loss Remedies For External Use

Hair Loss Remedy

Herbal Hair Loss Remedies For External Use By Richard Mitchell

In a separate article in this series we looked at some of the most popular herbal hair loss remedies for ingestion. Here we'll expand that theme to include some potentially useful herbal remedies for external use.

Aloe vera - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - some Indian tribes of Mexico attribute their thick, healthy hair to regular use of aloe vera gel which they rub into the scalp and hair each night. Herbalists believe that the herb activates the production of nitric oxide and contains an enzyme known as superoxide dismutane. Some experts feel that these two substances combine to stimulate hair regrowth in those suffering from male pattern type baldness.

Onion (Allium cepa) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - this has a high sulfur content that is believed to have hair-healing properties. Some herbalists believe that rubbing the scalp with half an onion before washing hair encourages hair growth.

Red pepper (Capiscum) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - a popular folk remedy that involves the application of a red pepper poultice to the scalp to act as a skin irritant. This draws blood and nutrients to the scalp and encourages the release of histimines to stimulate cell division and hair regrowth.

Safflower oil (Carthamus tinctorious) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - Eastern health practitioners believe that safflower oil applied to the scalp acts as a vasolidator that dilates blood vessels. This allows more blood to deliver nutrients to the hair follicle thus creating an environment conducive to hair regrowth.

Herbal Hair Loss Remedies That Offer Hope

Hair Loss Remedy

Herbal Hair Loss Remedies That Offer Hope By Richard Mitchell

Herbs hold an obvious appeal for many people because they support the body's natural healing mechanisms to target the cause of the problem, as opposed to merely tackling the symptoms. It would be wrong to present herbal hair loss remedies as a miracle solution for all sufferers - there is however growing evidence to support the view that some herbal remedies offer real hope to many people.

Let's examine the case for some of the more popular remedies to determine if they're worth trying.

Ginkyo biloba - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - this popular herb is thought to improve blood circulation to the brain and skin. Herbalists believe that the increased flow of blood to the brain area delivers more nutrients to the hair follicle thus promoting hair regrowth. The recommended dose is 120-160mg of dry extract each day spread over three doses.

Green tea (Camellia sinesis) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - it is thought that catechins found in green tea may inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that converts testosterone into hair-unfriendly DHT. It is therefore believed to be effective in preventing and treating male pattern type baldness. You should drink several cups of green tea each day or take it in capsule form as instructed by the manufacturer.

He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - also known as Fo-Ti, this Chinese herb has traditionally been used to reduce hair loss. It is found in many commercial preparations, or in tea and capsule form.

Pygeum (Pygeum africanum) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - derived from the bark of an evergreen, it works in a similar way to green tea. It is widely used to treat prostate problems and male pattern baldness. Users should take 60-500mg per day in pill or capsule form.

Saw palmetto (Seranoa repens) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - this is the current treatment of choice for many men due to its ability to protect the prostate, slow hair loss and encourage hair regrowth. It forms the core element of many commercially prepared hair loss treatments but can easily be obtained in its pure form. The recommended dose is a 160mg capsule twice each day, but make sure the ingredients are made from the berry extract not the dried berries themselves.

Stinging nettle (Urtica diocia) - Herbal Hair Loss Remedy - this has long been favored as a means of preventing hair loss due to its ability to block the conversion of testosterone into DHT. It can be taken in pill or capsule form with an optimum dose of 50-100mg per day. It is particularly effective when combined with pygeum and saw palmetto.

You can learn more about these and other promising hair loss treatments by visiting the site listed below.
